Replenish lost Electrolytes after Exercise

Apple Lytes™ Paste been carefully formulated to begin to replace the key electrolytes, and encourage drinking to help prevent dehydration and maintain peak performance.

Apple Lytes™ is palatable, low in sugar and suitable for all horses and ponies. It also comes in a convenient, easy to administer syringe, handy for travel and shows.

An increase in body temperature, either as a result of exercise, travelling or high environmental temperature, will cause the horse to sweat. The evaporation of this sweat helps the horse to cool down and regulate his body temperature. Sweating causes fluid loss, together with the loss of body salts called electrolytes, contained in the sweat. A horse in moderate work, trotting and cantering, can lose as much as 5-7 litres of fluid and 50-70g electrolytes in an hour, and this will increase as the work intensity or duration increases, and even more in hot, humid weather.

Research has shown that just 1% dehydration can adversely affect a horses performance so maintaining hydration, and replacing lost electrolytes is important not only for elite competition horses, but for all horses and ponies.

Ingredients Per 30ml Serving

Additives (per kg): Sensory additives:  Mixture of flavouring compounds 5g

Technological additives: E327 Calcium Lactate 27.3g, E202 Potassium sorbate 2g

Composition: Sodium Chloride, potassium chloride, dextrose, magnesium sulphate.

Analytical Constituents:

Pack size: 30ml (7 day supply) Paste

Directions for use: For 400-600 kg horses - 15 ml daily for  lighter work, 30 ml daily for horses in harder work sweating heavily. Administer into the horse’s mouth onto the back of the tongue. Maximum 30 mls per day. Do not exceed recommended intakes unless under professional advice. 

Note Apple Lytes should not be administered on a empty stomach, but should be given at appropriate intervals during long distance travel. Following exertion, once cooled and calm, the horse should be offered a small fibre feed or access to forage, before administering Apple Lytes Paste.
